John Harvey– Flesh and Blood

John Harvey– Flesh and Blood

It is no secret that I thoroughly enjoy Ian Rankin's series of Inspector Rebus novels.

The decision about when to read The Naming of the Dead, the penultimate Rebus novel, has been a difficult one to make. I had been looking, unsuccessfully, for years for a replacement series but I have finally found one.

John Harvey is a British author writing about an English detectives in contemporary British settings. His two main creations are Charlie Resnick, and Frank Elder and I'm really looking forward to reading his body of work.

Flesh and Blood centres around Frank Elder a retired detective from the English Midlands re-investigating a 15 year old case of a missing teenage girl that coincides with a similar case being handled by an old colleague.

What I particularly like about this book is the excellent characterisation and attention to detail that brings the tale to life.
