Dennis Lehane– A Drink Before the War

Dennis Lehane– A Drink Before the War

Dennis Lehane is most famous for having penned the novel Mystic River was based upon.

While Mystic River is written from a traditional 3rd person omnipotent viewpoint A Drink Before the War is a throwback to hardboiled detective novels. Written in the first person it contains a lot of personal observations and asessments which make what is a good tale a little less easy to take seriously.

The story centres around a case for PI detective team Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro (Kenzie's viewpoint) that isn't what it at first seems. Before they're done there is Boston, sodomy, attempted filicide, crack, an impressive body count and a man named Bubba.
