Nellie Bly Around the World in 72 Days
Nellie Bly's Around the World in 72 Days is a travelogue based on the ideas of Jules Verne (whom Bly meets). It is full of euphemisms in the place of real words but then that is to be expected from a "lady" travelling in the 1880's.
It isn't a bad book but neither is it a good book being bereft as it is of any real colour. Despite shying away from any harsh language she seems unaffected by self censorship in the matter of the tortures being employed in a Chinese city that she visits: a strange contrast in sensibilities.
